Chaia’s Weight-Loss Blog

At the start of the new year, I received an email from fellow Happy Feet and runner-blogger Chaia. She was telling me that she plans to post a blog regarding weight loss and keeping fit and would like to feature me (yep! Kulit me!) in it. She requested me to answer some questions related to the topic and asked if i could send her my before and after weight loss pics.

I was generally hesitant at the start because first, I haven’t totally won over my battle with the weight loss yet. As of now, the whole me is still a “work in progress”.  Second, I believe there are many out there who seem to be more worthy to be such a “role model”. And lastly, I just feel like I am not the best example that people would want to emulate. I still suck in discipline, you know. Honestly, I still have my moments of ‘sin” wherein the whole concept of discipline for me breaks loose. So why me?

But then Chaia says that she really wanted me after reading my blogs. And then I remembered that I have also talked about my weight loss experience in this blogsite of mine and having her talk about it again in her blog might really be able to generate inspiration to others. And so, answer her questions I did and emailed it back to her together with my pics and my sample nutrition diet.

And now, there it is – Chai’s post about my own weight loss story. I really just want to say thanks for the confidence. I recently just realized that I do have a gift of making people laugh, putting smiles on their faces without putting so much of an effort to it. But knowing that I might be giving others inspiration or encouragement is something that puts a positive confirmation to what i have been doing.

Curious now huh? If you want to see what I am being mushy about, check out Chaia’s (witchkitty) blog. ;)

RUNEW – Asian Hospital’s Fun Run

asian-hosp_funrun_rfa1_mkh_nike

I will definitely join this race. This is to be my 15k race debut and it will happen exactly a month before my scheduled first shot in running my first ever half marathon. Suffice to say, I am really counting on this race to be my yardstick as to my readiness into completing my immediate goal of being able to run and finish a 21K. Hopefully my shins will be up to the challenge as much as my heart and mind is.

Check out the poster for the race details guys. Registration btw starts on Feb 1, 2009 and registration centers are at the Nike Park in Bonifacio High Street and at the MOB Lobby of the Asian Hospital.

Also, as common to almost all RunRio-organized races, Photovendo will again be there to take snapshots of runners in their best running form and finisher’s poses.  Isn’t that a treat!

Hopefully I will be able to post snapshots of the race’s singlet soon. Just watch out for it. ;)

PSE Bull Run 2009

It was my first race for the year. Days before the race I was about to give-up running in this race because of several reasons – the disappointing manner by which the registration is being handled – paints an ugly picture of how the race is going to be and the pain on my shins which started to recur a few runs back, among others. But then, I already had set my sights into running my first race again and see how I’ll fare.

So went in the race I did with a bandaged left shin (it hurts more than the right) and did not let my disappointment get the better of me. I was almost late for the race, I came slightly before the 10K runners were sent off. I was tense at the start because I was trying to look for my friend Pol because I have his race bib with me. Unfortunately we were able to just see each other on the road during the run (he ran without his bib, i am so sorry Pol!) and at the finish.

I was glad to have PRed in this race despite the shin problems – Coach Rio and even Aljo reminded me to not push it too much and at worst, just try and finish the race. Finish the race I did with a surprisingly faster pace but with my usual sprint to the finish non-existent. I was on my sprinting mode between 1km to 500m onto the finish when at the last turn I was surprised to see a mob at the 10k chute. Oh it was not a mob after all but a large queue of 10k finishers waiting for their tags to be teared and put into the spindle. I finished the race at an unofficial time of 1:12:11 (according to my Nike+ Sportsband which I just started exactly when I started to run), a good nine minutes earlier than my 1:21 NB Power Race 10k finish.

In hindsight, I was glad that I was able to run well despite the poor organization of this race (but they had sufficient water stations ha!) but also a tad sad because I was not able to stay long enough to be and take pictures with, chat and have breakfast with my runner friends. I had to rush home as promised because of a personal commitment.

To the PSE peeps, I certainly do hope that you get Coach Rio’s services in next year’s Bull Run. I bet my last peso that you’ll have a race to be raved about for that.

Lastly, injured but triumphant me (I am slow but I PRed pa rin!) is so looking forward to running a 5k only at the Happy Run (i was hoping i can better my 5k time on this race) and debuting to 15K at the Asian Hospital’s Runnew race on the sundays to come. Oh and of course, continue with running training. Hope my training buddies all get back to training soon. The ULTRA oval is never the same without them ;)

Thanks a bunch to Nora and Gigi for the pics! ;)

Of Animated Kuwentos and Taong Grasas – a post by request

Hanep! It was a Friday and where do you expect the kulit gang to be (complete in attendance or not!)? Where else but at the BHS along the area of Nike Park participating in the now usual Friday sessions of the Nike Running Clinic.

Eh akala nyo ba naka-train ako? Aysus, hindi! I never did get past the 2 laps of warm-up run because I felt the intense pain again on my shins. It was so intense that I was limping as I walk after doing the warm-up. Coach Rio told me to stop (although ever kulit me still tried doing the stretching and non-bouncing drills in the hopes of easing the pain) and just rest and ice both shins. Rest I did and did not bother appealing my case, masakit kasi talaga eh and one more thing, I was able to run a decent 7+ k the night before at the same area so ok lang. I have this Sunday’s 10K Bull Run pa naman to look forward to. So rest I did and waited for my friends to finish.

After the session, we automatically converged in the area discussing dinner. Aba, may special guest kaya kami noon. We were with Papa Peps, Mrs Nice Wash Laundry, MR. LONERUNNER himself – Smith! Kaya a dinner get-together is a must. Hindi mo palalagpasin ang pagkakataong nalambat ang mala-palos na si LR. So around 9pm we were able to agree to just walk to Market-Market and eat at Ineng’s.

The dinner was a riot. As usual ang mga wala, pinag-usapan. Ang mga paborito, mas lalong pinag-usapan! How I wish I could post a blow-by-blow account of how riot the night was. Siempre pa, may contribution ako ng mga animated stories, ako pa! hehe. But then ang pinaka-jackpot ay ang topic regarding Taong Grasas.

Oh but before people think na salbahe kami, we are not referring to the usual Taong Grasa that we normally see on the streets. The ones we are referring to are…. SECRET! I think we’ll just have to wait and see – baka kasi i-blog ni Lonerunner!

So how do you, dear readers of my blog posts , will make sense out of this post? I don’t know either. What I do know is that we had fun that night and I am posting this to give-in to the request of one Blog Clogger named BOOBY. It is my advance Valentine’s Day gift for him. Because if I will not make a new post, he will run out of blogs to clog. LOL! Peace and cheers Mr. Cross!

Thanks to dear BK Mikey for the ride home that night and super thanks to US-bound Wil for the Buddy’s Pancit Lukban and the pics! ;)
