See You At The 2012 Run United 2 RACE EXPO!

Run United 2 2012 RACE EXPO Details

For the Run United 2 2012 race event, RunRio will be  holding what will seem to be the biggest Pre-Race Expo that the Philippine Running Community will experience so far.

Off-hand here are the Race Expo Objectives as shared by RunRio and ULAH:

  • Venue for runners to check out the latest and coolest sports apparel
  • Fitness and athletic brands can present their latest products and services
  • Hang out with fellow runners/sports enthusiasts, friends and family
  • Race kit claiming made more interesting & interactive
  • Major marathons around the world host race expos days before their event  (so it is only fitting that the Philippine running race setting becomes at par with what the rest of the world is doing!)

To achieve all these, RunRio will be partnering with world-renowned brand and company – Team Bike Boutique or better known as Team TBB. For better appreciation, Team TBB is:

  • The only and best event merchandise company in Asia Pacific
  • Same company that also does all Ironman Stores across Asia & Australia
  • Sponsors the Alaska Aces, IM 70.3 Philippines and 5i50 brand of races
With this partnership, we are looking forward to another breakthrough pre-race feature from RunRio which is the Pre-Race Expo.
Here are some important details about the expo:

Powerade Ion4, the Complete Sports Drink Launched

On the first day of February, the Coca-Cola company launched the new Powerade ION4 with Advanced Electrolyte System. VIPs, media and a number of bloggers were invited to take part in this event. The launch was more like a “posh-sports boot camp” of sorts. We running bloggers came wearing our running gear as this was the dress code specified in our invitation.

What we thought to be a running-related launch activity was actually a launch with activities involving FOUR Sports disciplines – Basketball, Football, Cycling/Fitness and of course Running. All four incidentally, are the sports which the new Powerade ION4 Ambassadors are famous in: David Semerad for Basketball, Neil Etheridge for Football, Chinggay Andrada  for Fitness and Coach Rio de la Cruz for Running. In each sports discipline challenges were put-up in the objective of getting one winner for each. Exciting!

BASKETBALL Booth: The participant who got the most number of successful three-point shots in a given time frame wins the challenge.

the Basketball Challenge area

FOOTBALL Booth: The challenger who got the most number of goals in a give time frame wins the challenge.

FITNESS/CYCLING Booth: The participant who will be able to do a continuous cycling activity with the stationary bicycle with its gear set to the heaviest resistance for the longest time wins the challenge.

RUNNING Booth: The challenger who will be able to cover a 1KM run on the treadmill the quickest wins the challenge.

We all agreed to at least try one challenge (not necessarily running!) so that as Bards said, “may saysay ang pagsuot natin ng running attire”. I specifically did not want to try running as most of the male runners I saw who were present there were eyeing the Running Challenge. I knew how much pressure it can give if I get to run side-by-side one of them (and I was wearing a RunRio shirt!).

Like most of my friends who were there to enjoy the activities, I signed-up for the Fitness (Cycling) Challenge. During the challenges, one is expected to replenish lost electrolytes by drinking the sports drink. But for this new Powerade product, the good news was that the usual four electrolytes that we lose from sweating is actually replaced. Other sports drinks only has two electrolytes and in some unfortunately only one.

For Powerade Ion4, the body is replaced with sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium plus a significant bonus of carbohydrate fuel. Hmm, this product really holds such promise. I was even really thinking, if this one has 4 ions/electrolytes then should I still be needing other energy supplements to help me endure my long runs? Or will the combination of both water and Powerade ION4 will truly be enough?

Learn more about what is new and exciting about POWERADE ION4 aside from it having four superb athletes as its endorsers/ambassadors by taking time to read this OFFICIAL RELEASE and PR DOCUMENTI also encourage you guys to try it as it is what I am also planning to do when I slowly ease back to my running training.

Lastly, you may ask what happened to the challenges? Two good men whom I do not know won the basketball and football challenges. Our friend and runner-blogger Dennis won the running challenge easily and I, dear folks, surprisingly emerged as the winner from the fitness/cycling challenge. I had a taste of a “podium finish” (well something that resembles it, sort of) at last! :P

POWERADE ION4 is now available in all convenience, grocery stores and supermarkets nationwide. :)

Run And Give the Gift of a Smile!

“We mobilize a world of generous hearts to heal children’s smiles and transform lives across the globe.”

With Operation Smile’s “vision/mission statement”, I was instantly taken. The race which will be organized by the Without Limits tandem of Ian Alacar and Jay Em with Operation Smile as the beneficiary is again one extra-ordinary race. Nope, I am not referring to exciting and generous race amenities. I am in fact referring to the impact that response and support to this race will give to children suffering from Cleft Lip or Cleft Pallate – the conditions which Operation Smile advocates in helping.

The race, entitled The 500 Smile Run will be held on November 6, 2011 at the Quirino Grandstand at Manila’s Rizal Park.

Yes this event will happen on the same day as that the Chevrolet New Balance Power Run which is being organized by the tandem of Event King and Runrio, Inc.

If you won’t be participating in the NB race, I recommend that you join this race instead. By joining, you will be able to contribute to the funds being raised as 100% of the registration fee that each registrant will pay will directly go to Operation Smile. A mere Php15,000 cumulative race registration payment will be enough to help operate on ONE KID! Doable right? Imagine, for every 30 registrants to the 3km category which costs Php500 each, these 30 runners will already be able to help give the gift of a smile to a child. I bet the feeling of being able to do this is much more than the feeling of being able to finally hit that targetted PR!

And how, you may also ask, will you be able to help more? EASY! Be a “PLEDGE RUNNER”! Gather pledges for your run wherein friends/family/blog readers will pledge a certain amount for every kilometer you will be able to run and pledge another amount which they will donate if and when you finish the race category you signed-up for. Gather all these pledges, run your race inspired by this great deed and donate all these to Operation Smile! Who knows, you might end up being able to help not just 1 child but more! This I bet will give you a more jubilant feeling than when you finally achieve a “podium-finish”!

Already registered at the Chevrolet New Balance Power Run or another race on the same date? NOT A PROBLEM! Here is my Value Proposition to all of you who might be in this situation: Be an Operation Smile PLEDGE RUNNER at the Chevrolet New Balance Power Run race or to whatever race event you already set your plans/sight into for the same day. Gather pledges for your run in whatever race it might be, finish your race and donate the amount you will be able to collect from the pledges you gathered and donate it to Operation Smile. In that way, you were still able to run your premium Chevrolet New Balance Power Race and enjoyed all race amenities that came with it and at the same time, not feel guilty because you were not able to sign-up for the 500 Smile Run because you get to support them still. Now, isn’t that a great value proposition? If you achieve this, it will give you an even greater badge of honor!
