New Year, New List!

Hello folks! As the year 2010 winds down to a close, I would like to thank all of you for being a part of my year. Many new things have been brought to me this year - a new baby, new friends and new challenges and more!

But then again, I will also have to say that for this 2010, I have been miserably “below quota” when it comes to physical fitness. I have been remiss in my running training, have had very few race participation and have zero mileage when it comes to bike rides. Which reminds me that I really need to reassess and plan more effectively my 2011 fitness goals. And of course, choose wisely from the 2011 races the ones I will be signing-up for.

Hmmm, it won’t be too hard to do right? Noooooo, in fact I think it will be! With the information I have been getting, it will be a challenge to come up with a concise list of events I will be participating in. Here is a teaser of what is in-store for us in the year 2011:

A. Events that you already know:
- XTERRA Pang-Rave Run (Tagaytay Midlands), January 30
- Condura Skyway Marathon 2011 (Metro Manila), February 6
- XTERRA Triathlon (Liloan, Cebu), March 6
- In-Motion Road Xtrail Series, January 15 (Running), January 16 (Duathlon), February 1 (Cycling)
- TBR Dream Marathon 2, March 20
- Takbo.ph Runfest

B. Sneak Peeks:
- Runrio Trilogy 2011 (with Unilab races as the two legs)
- a FREE running clinic in preparation for one of the races in the 2011 calendar
- 26 races in the calendar of only one race organizer, 7 races for another race director (gosh and that is just for two organizers only!)
- Rexona Run 2011
- NatGeo Earth Day Run 2011
- Globe Run for Home 2011 in March
- CAMSUR Marathon 2011 in September: this race will be an AIMS (Association of International Marathons)-certified race and thus is a valid Boston Marathon qualifier!
- A Nike Race in October 2011 that will definitely feature a race distance longer than a 5k
- A new and improved Adidas King of the Road 2011 with a NEW ORGANIZER and a NEW VENUE/ROUTE to boot!
- A night run organized by one of the biggest running groups with a venue at the South!
- Corregidor International Half-Marathon on the third week of December 2011
- A FREE RACE (yes folks! no registration fees!) wherein only 300 qualified runners will be chosen and will generously recognize only the “last man running”! This will happen on February 20, 2011.

Hah! Seems a lot, eh? Check back in the coming days as more details of these events become available. I will be updating my 2011 calendar of events soon too! ;)

For now, let us just enjoy the holidays. Eat and drink and be merry. After all, there are a lot of chances for us to get rid of whatever results the holiday bingeing will bring to us immediately after.

And as I brace for the coming 2011, join me in uttering a prayerful thanks for this year that will almost pass and for the year to come. Happy New Year everyone!

Finishline’s ROAD X-TRAIL Series

Towards the end of November this year, Finishline, the running events organizing company which brought to us some of the memorable races of the past year (Greenfield City Nioght Run, Globe Run For Home, Neutrogena Run, etc.) was relaunched. Based on the materials sent to me (I so regret having failed to attend the launch!), I had the impression that Finishline is aiming to widen their reach which now will go beyond organizing running races and will now include cycling races – be it on the road or off-road (me likey!).

In my opinion, this is one great decision for Finishline considering that there are not much organized races being held in relation to mtbiking. These kind of sport, aside from running has it’s “population” also growing in numbers and it will be great to have a lot of mtbiking races to choose from.

Together with the relaunch of Finishline was the launching of their own brand of sporting series – the InMotion Road X Trail Series. This series, which include cycling, running, and duathlon, was supposed to be a great year-ender event but was then moved to be Finishline’s initial offering for the year 2011.

Let me now share to you folks the updated details of this event:

IN-MOTION: ROAD X TRAIL SERIES by FINISHLINE

DESCRIPTION

ROAD X TRAIL (“Road Times Trail”) leg will be the launching pad of Finishline, In-Motion series and MyChip Sports Timing.

ROAD X TRAIL will include Cycling, Running, and Duathlon – 3 races in separate dates.

Under each sports discipline, Finishline will be the first to offer two separate race routes (road and off-road) in one day. This means that participants may choose to join either road or off-road race.

TARGET MARKET

Primary: for the longer distance race categories, we are targeting regular participants (elites and intermediates) of duathlon, cycling (mountain bikers and road bikers), running (trail and road runners)
Secondary: We will also target beginners and anyone interested in trying out new sports / muli-sports by offering shorter distance categories. Majority of them are either doing only running or cycling.

OBJECTIVES

• To introduce other sports to those who are limited to joining either running or cycling events only but would like to try other sports or combination of both.
• To offer a multi-discipline event designed to appeal not only to experienced competitors but to newbies as well.
• To showcase different sports disciplines in an accessible and spectator-friendly format.

UNILAB Active Health EVENTS and Kulitrunner Readers’ PROMO

Unilab, the company which Filipinos trust when it comes to quality, affordable healthcare, have come up with a campaign to promote an active lifestyle for the Filipino family.

Dubbed as Unilab ActiveHealth, it aims to make it known that active lifestyle is in and that a sedentary lifestyle is the “new unhealthy”. Its core campaign is built within the family where being healthy should start.

The Unilab ActiveHealth campaign is made up of three core sporting events – one each for Biking (Bike United), Triathlon (Tri-United) and Running (Run United).

BIKE UNITED

This event was held last October 16, 2010 and gathered weekend warriors and competitive bikers for a day of active health and wellness. It was composed of the following sub-events:
- 25km Sunset Fun Ride
- Alaxan FR 4.2km Road Criterium
- I-ON Dual Stunt
- Ceelin Kiddie Bike Clinic

Almost all events were completed successfully except for the 25km Sunset Fun Ride which was stopped short of the target ride route due to the heavy downpour last Saturday. According to organizers, this event will again be held on a date that will be announced soon.

TRI-UNITED

This event, to be held on November 13, 2010 at the White Rock Resort in Zambales is touted to be the “ultimate test of endurance in the triathlon arena”. It also makes-use of the Long-Course type of Triathlon that is also common to the Full Ironman which is the 70.3 total distance of a 2k swim, 91k road bike and a 20k run. This  is open to both individual and relay teams.

Aside from this main event, a Tri Kids Swim and Run Clinic will also be held on the same day.

RUN UNITED 2

The run event of Unilab ActiveHealth is also the third and last leg of the well-attended Runrio Trilogy of Races. This race is the first of its kind with its events set to happen across two consecutive days – November 21 and 22, at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Both event days are expected to have a maximum of 10,000 participants each for a total of 20,000 for both days.

All of these three events have activities for both adults and kids which clearly espouse that the journey to a healthy lifestyle can be fun and is easily doable especially when done with the whole family.

And that’s not all. UNILAB also has something in store for the readers of this blog. Read below for more details:
