Manila, Philippines, October 5, 2012 – Waves of athletes and running enthusiasts are set to blaze the tracks of the Visayas region once again for the 36th National MILO Marathon Cebu eliminations leg this Sunday. Organizers of the regional qualifying leg said they will adopt a new track this year and shift to the Northern part of the region, marking a first in the history of the MILO Marathon in Cebu.
The event will also host an exciting cheer dance competition, special side events and a thrilling firework display onsite to up the ante and entertain runners and spectators alike. Along with the thousands of runners expected to hit the track is Biggest Loser former contestant and fitness advocate Alan Choachuy.

“We are expecting a big turnout this Sunday. About 22,000 runners will be joining the race and we would like to give all of them the best experience all throughout the event. We are also looking to select the best representative for the region in the National Finals,” said Cebu City race organizer Ricky Ballesteros.

MILO’s Help Give Shoes advocacy program has already reached 19,700 underprivileged school children nationwide. This Sunday, 500 pairs of shoes will be awarded to beneficiaries from five schools in Cebu City, namely Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School, Liloan National High School, Cabangcalan National High School, Mabolo Elementary School, and City Central School.

“Fostering bright futures through the MILO Marathon is only the beginning. In line with our endeavors to support the Philippine sports community and encourage Filipinos to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, we will continue to create opportunities for talents young and old to accomplish their aspirations,” said Andrew Neri, MILO Sports Executive. “The great athletic potentials that we see each year in the MILO races serve as our inspiration to develop the Filipino youth further.”

After the Cebu eliminations leg, the next qualifying race of the 36th National MILO Marathon will shift to Bacolod on October 14, and Iloilo City on October 28. The Mindanao leg will commence in General Santos on November 4, Davao City on November 11, Butuan City on November 18, and Cagayan de Oro City on November 25.
