The NIKE All-Women Training Club Launched!

The launch of the NIKE All-Women Training Club was a party, a celebration of woman power!

Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager, the pretty Courtney Cole-Faso explained that the aim was really to provide women a training alternative where sessions or activities are focused on women-friendly activities which may not necessarily have equal appeal for the men.

That is why for the kick-off session, Nike, together with its partners came up with one grand event, even flying-in Nike Master Trainer Marie Purvis to lead everyone into the Nike Training Club brand of workout.

After the exclusive media session at the 2nd Floor of the Planet Sports store in BGC (which will be the hub of the Nike All-Women Training Club), we were brought to the activity area for the main event comprised of a super tiring, sweat-inducing but awesomely fun workout led by Marie (most of the workouts can be done alone with the help of the Nike Traning Club – NTC, mobile application which can be downloaded for free on iPhone and Android devices), a 1.5km run where participants are handed-out long-stemmed red roses as they cross the finish and a fun post-workout snack of cold water, bananas, Oreo cookies and sorbetes (Filipino-style Ice cream!).  A booth was also setup for the trial of the new NIke Free shoes. Oh and of course that fun, fun trampoline experience!

Are you interested to be part of this training club? Check back soon as an announcement to the official opening of regular sessions is posted here. Membership is FREE and exclusive to women only.

Meanwhile, here are photos. Enjoy!

Nike Inspires Filipino Women to Run Free

Female Runners are Globally Connected with the Nike+ Running App

PHILIPPINES, 6 May 2012 – Over 200 female runners joined Nike to Run Free through the streets of Bonifacio Global City at an exclusive all-female celebration of running and training.

Led by Nike Master Trainer Marie Purvis, Run Free celebrated the power of women runners in a be-proud-of-your-sweat Nike Training Club workout session emphasizing the need for a holistic athletic training regimen for runners.

“Nike Training Club makes you a stronger runner and athlete because of its well-rounded training program that allows you to develop muscles that may get overlooked by running as well as improve your overall fitness. The secret to achieving this is to stay consistent, stay dedicated and most importantly, have fun with your training,” shared Purvis. “I have always admired the enthusiasm of Filipino women from around the world and seeing the energy of Filipina runners as they run free with the world in this event has only reinforced that impression.”

Harnessing the energy of its youthful audience were locally-renowned DJs Kat DJ and Patty Tiu, collectively known as Deuce Manila, who got the ladies moving with their high-octane beats, while Brewing Point Dance Studio, an all-female dance crew, stepped up the heat with their hip hop dance routine. After much anticipation, Marie Purvis was introduced and really got the energy flowing with an intensive Nike Training Club set followed by a 1.5 kilometer run and ended with an NTC warm-down. Also present were Nike ambassadors Tata Garcia and Gretchen Ho, who hosted the event.

Already boasting a strong presence in the Metro Manila running scene, Nike introduced its weekly all-female Run Club in BGC and showcased its digital platforms—the Nike Training Club App and the Nike+ Running App. Both apps are designed to inspire runners to move more and move better by providing tools to strengthen, track and measure their performance, and challenge their friends who also use the app to compete.

“With the trend of digital media going social, Nike+ presents the perfect opportunity for runners to run anywhere, anytime while staying connected to the global running community. In the same way, we want aspiring young female runners to know that there are women all over the world who can inspire them to become the best runners they can be. We definitely look forward to establishing the foundations with female runners as we drive the running revolution in the country,” shared Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager Courtney Cole-Faso.

The Nike Free 5.0 Trial Run (and Dance!)

Su13_SNP_RN_M_Free5_Volt_Profile_0005

A few weeks ago, I was honored to have been invited to participate in an all-female Nike Free 5.0 Trial session. It could have been just another one of those regular Nike trial sessions that we have become so familiar with but then again no. This time, there were separate sessions for the women and the men.

Nike Free dancers (errrr, trial runners): Jaymie (TBR), me, Bards (bananarunning), Sandra (Runner’s World) and Lara (Women’s Health)

Aside from trying out the shoes by running in it, the men’s group had a fulfilling circuit training session with Coach Chappy Callanta while us, the female group had a tiring, fun, fun hip-hop dancing session courtesy of former Philippine All-Star Dance Group member Madelle Enriquez.

13

Us with the guys from Nike and Ogilvy! Hey we should do this again (at least until I learn how to look good dancing, lol!)

The run was short as we only were asked to run one loop around the Bonifacio High Street area but we still got almost a complete workout for that day, thanks for the Hip-Hop dance experience! It was an entirely new and super fun experience for me!

Here are some of my initial impressions on the Nike Free 5.0 that were lent to us during that trial session

02

  • the Nike Free 5.0 comes in impressive color ways – it is actually always a give for Nike to come up with eye-candy shoe colors!
  • it’s Flywire of Nike that was applied to this shoe says that it wraps the midfoot and arch underneath the foot up through the laces for a glove-like fit – This is true. Well, at least for the short time that I was able to wear it because I was able to feel the support/cushioning making me feel comfy to run in it.
  • it is a minimalist shoe but has enough cushioning to protect the feet
  • it has a snug-fit almost like I am wearing a pair of socks – which got me to thinking, this one is probably okay to wear even without socks on. hmmm…

Basically, that’s about all that I could say about the shoes for now as the time given for us to try it wasn’t that much. However, I still feel that with the technology that was applied to the Nike Free shoes, it won’t hurt much to try and give it a try. After all, a runner will almost at times need to run with that barefoot running feel, aren’t we?

NIKE FREE A-Z SHARES INSIDE STORY OF NATURAL MOTION

Interactive experience highlights new Nike Free collection and includes insights from athletes Allyson Felix and Dathan Ritzenhein, the innovation and design team, and the franchise’s history

Su13_SNP_RN_Free5_W_Violet_PPBTP

Feet are the foundation of movement. When they’re able to flex, stretch and be themselves, the natural technology we were all born with does what it was meant to do. This is the insight that led to the creation of Nike Free shoes almost ten years ago and it continues to drive design enhancements today.

This season Nike Free presents five new styles across running and training – the Nike Free 5.0+, 4.0 and 3.0 in running; the Nike Free TR Breathe for women’s training; and the Nike Free Trainer 5.0 for men’s training.

The idea for Nike Free emerged in 2001, launching years of study, testing and design to make a shoe that delivered the benefits of natural motion while protecting the foot. More than a decade later, the 2013 running shoes retain the well-known flexibility of Nike Free’s articulated outsole, and introduce three new upper designs for enhanced natural motion:

Nike Free 5.0+: Dynamic Nike Flywire technology provides secure support without added weight.

Nike Free 4.0: Utilizes no-sew overlays and a tongue-wrap fit for stitch-free comfort.

Nike Free 3.0: Nike engineered mesh improves fit and breathability with looser patterns where ventilation and stretch are needed and tighter patterns in areas where support is key.

This is just the start of the story. To learn the past and glean the future of one of Nike’s key running franchises, explore Nike Free A-Z, an interactive experience that examines key moments behind this technology’s genesis, evolution and vast influence.

Through imagery, video, and interviews with innovators and athletes, Nike Free A-Z sheds light on the design process and illustrates Nike’s constant commitment to serving the athlete. From hot knifing to dynamic Nike Flywire technology, Nike Free A-Z takes you on the journey of how a coach’s insight about natural motion led to a new performance language. Nike makes an icon more flexible than ever with Air Max+ 2013
A reengineered Nike Max Air unit makes a classic running shoe lighter, more cushioned and an even better fit.

Fotor0121161752

PHILIPPINES – JANUARY 2013: The franchise that started a revolution releases its 2013 edition totally designed for runners’ needs. The Nike Air Max+ 2013 features the most advanced heel-to-toe Nike Max Air unit ever to provide lightweight, soft cushioning and more flexibility than any previous version.

The Nike Air Max team emphasized natural motion in their design. They started by reconstructing the Nike Max Air unit to ensure the softest, most comfortable ride possible. The unit’s internal walls are minimized to encourage airflow, and internal tubes move with the foot to provide more flexibility than in previous Nike Air units.

Nike Hyperfuse construction is used throughout the shoe to create a lighter, more breathable upper and a reduced overall weight, without sacrificing on comfort. Open hole mesh on the upper serves the dual purpose of generating allowing increased ventilation for comfort on the run and a sleek appearance.

A notched inner sleeve wraps around the foot, while a molded collar supports the ankle to create an improved fit that feels virtually seamless. Whether on the street or the treadmill, dynamic Nike Flywire technology ensures that the midfoot stays secure and supported at all times.

The Nike Air Max+ 2013 takes its place as the latest incarnation of the Air Max franchise. As both a timeless statement of innovation and a perennial sports classic, visible air has set Nike apart for almost a quarter of a century.

As the first shoe to feature visible air, the original Air Max 1, designed by Tinker Hatfield, revolutionized an industry and reshaped the design landscape for running footwear. In the late 80′s, the idea of running on air was an innovation that not only had never been seen before but also delivered a fit and level of comfort that changed the game. In the years following, Air Max shoes have become the epitome of running performance and style.

Visible air continues to be one of the most relevant and revolutionary innovations Nike has ever created. The reinvented Nike Air Max+ 2013 represents the evolution of Nike Running.

The Nike Shield Pack introduces the iconic styles of the Nike LunarGlide+4Nike Free Run+3 and Nike Air Pegasus+29 to keep runners dry, protected and comfortable. Each shoe is treated with weatherized features that help resist rain while maintaining the breathability important to runners

Introducing high-performance gear designed for the country’s extreme weather conditions

Nike Running Shield Pack Men’s

Southeast Asia faces its annual wet and cool season through the monsoon months, with the highest rainfall at the end of every year. Running in the rain can be an exhilarating experience, but it can be dangerous as well. Wet tracks reduces grip, and reduces visibility.

The rain should not deter runners from their runs, and this Holiday ’12 season, Nike introduces products to keep runners dry, protected and comfortable.

Breathability, ventilation and comfort come together in the NIKE RELAY tops (men’s and women’s). The Nike Dri-FIT knit fabric enables premium sweat management, while ergonomic seaming with flat-seam construction follows the body’s natural contours for reduced irritation, a flattering fit and a full range of motion. Mesh underarm panels and the dropped and vented hem augment the cool comfort. The NIKE RELAY top features reflective elements as well, keeping the runner visible in the dark. A reflective headphone cord loop at the back of the neck also means runners can listen to their music without distractions.

NIKE TWISTED TEMPO shorts for women pack high-performance features into stylish and comfortable running shorts, available in a wide range of color combinations with contrasting diagonal panels. The Nike Dri-FIT fabric and built-in Dri-FIT crepe liner helps keep runners dry. A zipper pocket provides secure storage for a small media player.

The NIKE SHIELD PACK– a collection of running footwear to suit each unique running style –is updated with the Nike Shield technology, igniting runners every day and night of this season no matter rain or shine. It features a highly reflective inner sleeve that performs triple duty—it’s reflective even in dim light for safety; it makes a barrier that resists water in wet conditions, but stays breathable; and the reflectivity adds some flash to the look.

The Shield Pack collection consists of the NIKE FREE RUN+ 3 SHIELD, NIKE LUNARECLIPSE+ 2 SHIELD and NIKE PEGASUS+ 29 SHIELD.

So in this wet, rainy season, there is no reason not to continue running.

The New NIKE LUNARGLIDE+ 4

This summer when the greatest athletes in the world compete for career defining victories, Nike introduces an innovation showcasing the all-new fourth generation of one of Nike’s signature stability running shoe, the LunarGlide+. Featuring the reinvented Nike Flywire technology and the innovative Dynamic Support cushioning system, users can expect a better fit, support and stability in the shoe’s materials, apart from its lighter material.

The New Nike LunarGlide+ Takes the Everyday Run to an Elite Level

Lunarlon Dynamic Support system and reinvented Nike Flywire technology offer cutting-edge performance on a glove-like fit.

  • Revolutionary fit with dynamic Nike Flywire technology
  • Lunarlon Dynamic Support system offers stability and cushioning
  • Lighter than the Nike LunarGlide+ 3

PHILIPPINES, JULY 2012 – This summer when the greatest athletes in the world compete for career defining victories, runners everywhere can hit the street and log miles in the technologies these athletes inspired. These innovations live in the all-new fourth generation of the Nike LunarGlide+, featuring reinvented Nike Flywire technology and the innovative Dynamic Support cushioning system – and weighing in lighter than the previous version.

Whether at record breaking speeds or on a relaxing morning run, fit is paramount. Sprinters and middle distance runners this summer will race in the Nike Zoom Superfly R4 and Nike Zoom Victory Elite, respectively, both with revolutionary Nike Flywire – a technology also utilized in the new Nike LunarGlide+.  The dynamic cables move with the foot, offering support and comfort while minimizing weight and bulk. And since it wraps under the arch and loops into the laces, Flywire technology is customizable for an adaptive, glove-like fit that helps eliminate the gaps of a traditional upper.

The LunarGlide+ is really the best of both worlds. You’ve got amazing fit and support on an unbelievable ride with the super responsive Lunarlon cushioning.

-Rob Williams, Sr. Footwear Designer for Nike Running

In the midsole, Lunarlon foam stars in the Dynamic Support platform and provides super plush, responsive cushioning. Lunarlon – the result of collaboration between Nike designers and the Nike Sport Research Lab – was first introduced on the global stage four years ago as the midsole cushioning system in the Nike LunaRacer+ and Nike LunarTrainer+ running shoes.

The Nike LunarGlide’s Dynamic Support system is a two-part midsole developed to provide superior stability and cushioning. Opposing wedges of foam (Lunarlon and firmer carrier foam) move the runner from soft to stable as the heel lands and the foot flexes down. The innovative system provides a gradual transition and a smooth ride for a variety of gaits.

Nike LunarGlide+ designers focused on fit, support and stability in the upper materials as well. The floating heel clip has become a staple of the Nike LunarGlide franchise. Attached to the firmer foam carrier, the clip moves with the foot to help with the heel rolling inward or outward.

Large expanses of single-layer engineered mesh provide ventilation and support where runners need it and give the shoe a purposefully smooth look. Designers also obsessed over style, and the Nike LunarGlide’s sleek look helps ensure a long run looks good, too.

Since the LunarGlide+ is Nike+ enabled, runners will also be able to track, compare and share their runs through nikeplus.com, the world’s largest running community with 6 million members.
