The RUNNR Academy

Two Wednesdays ago, on March 23, I was invited to attend the launch of the RUNNR Academy. This, it seems, is RUNNR Store’s way of giving back to the running community as they were awarded “Store of the Year”  at the 2010 Ayala Mall’s Merchants Awards event.

The RUNNR Academy is an upcoming series of lectures in running for both beginner and advanced runners. The lectures will also be complemented by group runs wherein participants can learn to apply the things they learned from the lectures.

During the launch, attendees got the privilege of hearing talks from The Bull Runner – Ms. Jaymie Pizarro and RUNNR owner and then Birthday Boy, Mr. Toby Claudio.

PRESS RELEASE:

RUNNR Academy to share running tips and benefits

An upcoming weekly series of lectures on running will fire up the interests of both beginners and advanced runners as they will get to know innovative health and training tips, strength and conditioning techniques, and other important strategies that will take them further into their sport.

The RUNNR Academy, sponsored by the innovative and highly defined sports store RUNNR in partnership with Run BGC (Bonifacio Global City) and Newton Running, will be launched on March 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm.

The evening lectures will be conducted by well-known runners and coaches like Jaymie Pizarro, Jim Saret, Andy Leuterio, Lit Ornubia, Edsel Vengco, Edward Kho, and others experts.

Some of the topics they will be discussed include the application of the correct method of running; the importance of having a strong physical framework; techniques to acclimatize, avoid dehydration and run with the sun; determining the ideal weight, right nutrition, heart rate, and other health concerns.

The lectures will be held subsequently every Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. until May 25, 2011. Lecture is free for all. Lectures will be followed by Group Runs at 8:00 p.m. Lecture Participants will be divided into two groups of Basic and Advanced runners, each limited to 30 individuals and to be led by two couches along a predetermined route inside the Bonifacio Global City. Group stretching and other drills will ensure that the participants will get the most benefits out of each session. If a runner misses the group runs for 2 consecutive Wednesdays, his/her slot will be opened to new interested runners.

RUNNR founder Toby P. Claudio explained that the RUNNR Academy intends to not just encourage interest in the sport but also share in-depth knowledge that can maximize one’s health and enjoyment.

“The RUNNR Academy showcases our commitment to propagate the sport and all its many benefits to everyone,” he said. “Running is taking off literally, both as a sport and as a hobby. It’s about time that people realize and learn the many aspects about running, because these can impact on one’s endurance, physical safety, cardiovascular health and other areas.”

The RUNNR Academy running clinics is on a first come, first served basis. There will be no pre-registration. Interested runners must register on the spot during the clinics. Bday Month Treat #4: 3 For 3!

Hello folks! As my birthday month winds down to its last days, I present to you my fourth and final birthday treat which I have taken to calling “3 For 3”. Why the name? Because in this promo, there will be THREE winners who will each receive FREE race kits for three Runrio races:

    1. The PCPF Run with Doctors – May 1 (Race Category choices for free kit: 3km, 5km or 10km)
    2. The CCF Run – May 7 (Race Category choices for free kit: 3km, 5km or 10km)
    3. The Goldilocks 45th Anniversary Run (Runrio Series Manila Leg 1) – May 15 (Race category choices for free kit: 5km or 10km)

So what does one needs to do to win? EASY!

1. Post a comment in this blog post with the answer to the question: “How should runners celebrate their birthdays?”
Sample answers: “Celebrate with a carbo-loading party!” or “Celebrate it as a non-runner would and forget all about running for the meantime!”

2. Keep your answer as short as possible (no need to tell a story!). The top three creative answers will win the prize!

3. Please remember that each commenter can only submit ONE entry and thus can only win ONCE. All succeeding entries will have to be disqualified.

4. All entries will only be accepted until 12MN of Wednesday, March 30.

5. The three winning entries will be chosen by THREE Runrio representatives and will be announced on the night of Thursday, March 31.

But wait here is an added treat!

Take a guess on the exact date of my birthday and post it as a part of your entry (enclosed in parentheses). 😉 All those who will get to guess the correct date will be included in a raffle (via randomizer.org) to determine another winner to receive three sets of race kits.

For this additional treat, even those who were chosen to win the first promo can have another chance of winning provided they will be able to guess my birthdate correctly. TIP: Be resourceful. If you seek you will find. 😉

Oh, isn’t birthdays supposed to be fun? And what fun do I get being able to give even as I also receive! Thank you, thank you folks for all your birthday greetings and wishes. I look forward to spending another chapter of my life as it is said to begin at 40!
