A little over two weeks ago, Suunto’s newest sports watch products – the Ambit2 and Ambit2 S, was launched in the Philippines. The gadgets are new additions to Suunto’s Ambit Family of precision sports watches and are said to be improved versions of its predecessor, the Suunto Ambit.

With the new Ambit2 and 2S models, Suunto is not only aiming to capture the outdoor adventure market but also the multisport (triathlon) and ultra-running markets. And it seems that they are spot on to their objective!

Let me share to you in detail the features of each model:

Everything that is needed for outdoor sports – navigation, weather conditions, altitude, speed, distance, heart rate and advance features for running, biking and swimming are all packed into this glass fiber reinforced gadget.

At the launch, we were all given our own piece of the Suunto Ambit2 S for us to be able to experience first-hand the many useful features of the gadget. Having it for a couple of weeks already, I have the following initial impression/feedback:

image

  • It has the signature of a true-blue Suunto watch – I have been owners of 2 other GPS sports watches. One brand can’t be used on an ordinary no-training or no-run/bike day as it is too bulky and the battery life is too short. The other brand is okay but looks too sporty. The Suunto AMBIT2 S, altho a sports watch, can be worn even if I am at the office or at a business activity and nobody will even notice that it is a watch jampacked with a lot of sporting features!
  • my wrist is small/thin and it may not look good for a big-faced Suunto watch and might feel heavy too but it is not. it’s sleek design makes it comfy to wear even by those with small wrists such as me!
  • Long battery life – it will last up to 15 days for purely AC function and up to 24hours on a 60 second interval. For those into ultra-running, this watch is just perfect for you to be able to record your performance completely!
  • Good for both outdoor and indoor training! – Can’t train outdoors? This watch can still be used for indoor training with the use of any ANT+ compatible foot or bike pods and record your performance
  • Comes in three colors: red, lime and graphite. Mine’s graphite! 🙂
  • You can press buttons of the watch even while underwater. – this one’s according to Coach Ige Lopez who’s been using the Ambit watch from the very first one up to the recent member of the Ambit family
  • Watch controls and features are very easy to navigate, no need to fear a “nose-bleed” when trying to get familiarized with the watch.
  • The many Suunto applications plus the MOVESCOUNT app makes it possible to record one’s sporting performance and record histories of it and moreso, makes it possible to add more features to the watch!

I would like to be able to put it into more good use as I gear up for training and eventually go back to the two sports I love to indulge in. Meanwhile, with all that was shared to us, I will have to say that these 2 watch models are worth a try especially for triathletes and ultra-runners!
