What do you think former national athletes, sometimes celebrated sports icons become after retiring from active sports competitions? Do they just revert to being regular individuals and fade into a sedentary lifestyle? The answer is NO, they don’t. They may have taken time to rest for sometime but once a warrior, always a warrior. So what they really turn out to be is to become IMMORTALS.

Today, 19 former national team athletes will prove just that as they go to Kitakami City in Japan to compete at the 18th Asian Masters Athletics Championships. In a nutshell, the Asian Masters Athletics Championships is a biennial athletics championships in Asia participated in by athletes over the age of 35. It is the Asian version of the World Masters (formerly Veterans) Athletic Championships inaugurated in 1975 held every two odd-numbered years. The Philippines have been represented yearly in this meet ever since 1996 with last year’s campaign lead by athletics legends Elma-Muros Posadas and Linda Lavandia. It resulted to a haul of 8 golds, 7 silvers and 5 bronze medals by this bumper crop. For this year’s edition, Team Philippines, supported by L Timestudio and Soma sports watch, is eyeing to match or even surpass this achievement.
