Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska Officially Opens 2015 Season

It’s Jr. NBA/WNBA Season once again! Now on it’s 8th consecutive year, the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska was officially opened by a press conference and the coaches’ tip-off last January 24 at the British School Manila. This means many young Filipino boys and girls are set to receive awesome basketball training and tips from qualified basketball coaches and most of all learn invaluable lessons on Sportsmanship, Teamwork, (positive) Attitude and Respect, which they aptly termed as the S.T.A.R. Values.

More updates regarding the Jr. NBA/WNBA activities and schedule will be posted in this blog shortly. Meanwhile, here is the official photo release from the recently-held event.

Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska returns for the 8th consecutive year

Alaska continues their partnership with Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA this year to nurture young boys and girls, become better individuals and encourage them to embrace a healthy lifestyle not just by drinking milk but also by leading an active lifestyle through sports. Last January 24, 2015 at the British School Manila, Bonifacio Global City, Philippine Basketball Association All-Star player and coach Jeff Cariaso has announced his return to Alaska to help the next generation of young and aspiring basketball players realize their dreams. Become an inspiring athlete too and join Alaska’s sports programs now! NUTRITION. ACTION. CHAMPION. 10-Time PBA All-Star Jeffrey Cariaso “Returns Home” to Alaska

When you hear or read about Jeffrey Cariaso, you’ll at once connect it with Alaska the basketball team where he played for during his stint at the PBA. Retired from professional basketball and regarded as one of the PBA’s greatest players, Jeff Cariaso returns in a homecoming of sorts in Alaska not as a player but as a Basketball Director. What this new title is and what it means to him can be read through the below official press release. Read on!

10-time PBA All-Star returns to Alaska as Basketball Director for Alaska Basketball Powercamp, Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA programs

At the 2015 Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska Tip-Off, Jan. 24, at the British School Manila, Bonifacio Global City, Philippine Basketball Association All-Star player and coach Jeff Cariaso has announced his return to Alaska to help the next generation of young and aspiring basketball players realize their dreams. The launch was led by Alaska Milk President and CEO Fred Uytengsu, NBA Country Manager for the Philippines Carlo Singson and Alaska Milk VP for Marketing Blen Fernando.

“This feels like a homecoming for me because I’ve always been proud to be part of Alaska. My job right now is to find the best basketball players for boys and girls around the country and help them develop to their full potential not just as players but also as persons and productive members of the community,” said Cariaso.

Cariaso started his 15-year career in PBA after he was drafted sixth overall by Alaska in 1995 where he also took the Rookie of the Year award that year. On his 2nd year in the league, he achieved a rare Grand Slam with the Aces. When Jeff rejoined Alaska Aces in 2004, he was team captain for six years before announcing his retirement in 2010 after playing 15 seasons in the league.

From being a 10-time PBA All-Star, 2003 PBA All-Filipino Finals MVP and 2002 PBA All Filipino Best Player of the Conference, Cariaso began his transition to becoming a coach in 2011.

Cariaso returned home to Alaska this year to as Basketball Director for Alaska Basketball Powercamp and lead coach for the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA under Alaska’s NUTRITION. ACTION. CHAMPION. Program to help aspiring young players achieve their full potential. He will travel around the country together with the other coaches to conduct school clinics for coaches and players during the regional selection camps. They will also teach not just the basics of the sport but also STAR values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, (positive) Attitude, and Respect. These activities will culminate in the National Training Camp at the SM Mall of Asia where the 2015 Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA all-star teams and national coaches are named.

The players and coaches will then have an experience of a lifetime when they go on a trip to watch an NBA game and meet NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA teams flew to Beijing, China to meet basketball legend Yao Ming and played friendly basketball games with other all-stars teams from Southeast Asia.

Young boys and girls will learn positive values as they as they showcase their basketball skills with athletes of the same age (10 to 14) through the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA. Alaska promotes a healthy lifestyle, especially among children, through regular sports activities and proper nutrition.

According to the 7th National Nutrition Survey of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Health, obesity is increasing with nearly two out 10 children considered as overweight. Under-nutrition is also a public health concern.

Alaska provides proper nutrition through its Alaska Chocolate Powdered Milk Drink, which contains essential nutrients that help children reach their full growth potential.

With Alaska as presenting partner, the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA program has reached thousands of schools and communities nationwide and benefited thousands of young boys and girls, parents, and coaches through basketball training camps and school clinics.

The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA program for 2015 will definitely be exciting with Coach Jeff on board in helping our future athletes realize their dreams. Encourage your children to go out and play!

Now It’s Out – The NIKE Women’s Event Series 2015

As early as last year, I have been fortunate to have been entrusted a secret big event for women by Nike. Finally, here is their official announcement about the NIKE Women’s Event Series which aims to gather more than 200,000 women around the world in a series of one-of-a-kind, high-energy running and training events. As I have been told, it will include a Nike Women’s Race Series and N+TC Tour set in the world’s major cities. For the first time, Manila will host an event as part of this series.

PRESS RELEASE:

NEW NIKE WOMEN’S EVENT SERIES CHALLENGES WOMEN TO RACE AND TRAIN TO NEW LEVELS

Nike Women’s Race Series and N+TC Tour set course to major cities around the world such as Toronto, London and Hong Kong in 2015.

With the new year underway, Nike introduces fresh motivation for women looking for a challenge with the new Nike Women’s Event Series.  The series — which includes the Nike Women’s Race Series and N+TC Tour — invites more than 200,000 women around the world to celebrate and experience the power of sport through a series of one-of-a-kind, high-energy running and training events.

The series kicks off March 8 with the Nagoya Women’s Marathon and N+TC Tour Shanghai and wraps this fall with the Nike Women’s Half Marathon San Francisco.

EXPANDING THE VISION

“We started over a decade ago with the inaugural Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco, and now the Nike Women’s Event Series is expanding that vision to bring the inspiration and camaraderie we find at local races and gyms to women all over the world,” says running legend Joan Benoit Samuelson, winner of the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s marathon. “The Nike Women’s Race Series motivates women to achieve personal running goals, and N+TC Tour offers challenge, variety and reward for athletes at any level. The choices and access for women who love sport and fitness are better than ever with the announcement of the Nike Women’s Event Series.”

“The Nike Women’s Race Series motivates women to achieve personal running goals, and N+TC Tour offers challenge, variety and reward for athletes at any level.” – Joan Benoit Samuelson

In the weeks and months leading up to the Nike Women’s Event Series, athletes can access elite training programs on the Nike+ Running and Nike+ Training Club Apps, available for iPhone and Android, to prepare them to achieve personal bests. These best-in-class apps combine the power of Nike’s 65-million-women strong social community with the expertise of Nike’s top trainers.

NIKE WOMEN’S RACE SERIES

The Nike Women’s Race Series will be the world’s largest race series designed for women. The races motivate runners of all levels to push their limits by offering a variety of distances — ranging from 5k to half-marathon — on epic courses in 20 cities around the world including Toronto, London and Hong Kong.

In addition to uniting a global community of female runners, every race offers something different, including exciting new courses; runner services; and access to elite athletes, music and local cultural connections. Amongst the details designed specifically for women, runners completing each race will earn a custom finisher necklace distinctive to their city.

N+TC TOUR

Nike+ Training Club Tour is an impressive, fun five-hour training challenge led by Nike Master Trainers and other top trainers in 12 cities from Shanghai to Stockholm. The tour joins women together around the world under the common goal of crushing the workout and introduces them to new fitness experiences and communities.

Each N+TC Tour stop combines workouts ranging from Nike+ Training Club, Tabata intervals, yoga, spinning and boot camp-type drills designed to test the athlete’s fitness limits in a high-energy environment. For example, women might experience an opening performance and 45-minute Nike+ Training Club workout, followed by small group breakout fitness rotations, and closing with an unforgettable performance and celebration moment. No two N+TC Tour stops will be exactly the same workout, and athletes will be able to access training programs by following @nikewomen or downloading the Nike+ Training Club App.

BRINGING TOGETHER A GLOBAL FITNESS COMMUNITY

The Nike Women’s Event Series extends Nike’s vision to motivate, inspire and connect athletes within a global community of sport through both physical events and digital connections.

The Nike+ Running App helps runners track their workouts and stay inspired throughout their training. The app tracks distance, pace, time, calories and NikeFuel and includes motivational options such as social media sharing; real-time audio feedback; the option to select a Nike+ PowerSong for an extra push; and the chance to compete in Nike+ Challenges against friends.

The Nike+ Training Club App includes more than 100 full body workouts designed by Nike Master Trainers, many of whom will participate in the N+TC Tour. The N+TC App for women has already been downloaded more than 16 million times, in 94 percent of the countries in the world. The app now features new, easier and more fun ways for her to connect with friends to encourage them and share her own successes and goals, including photo sharing on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The all-new Nike Sport Feed helps her stay engaged with her friends as well as the broader N+TC App community.
