First was the launch of its newest variant, the the orange-and-grapefruit-flavor based White Lightning together with its newest set of ambassadors who are among the top local athletes of this generation—UAAP volleyball superstars Alyssa Valdez from the Ateneo Lady Eagles and Mika Reyes from the De La Salle Lady Spikers together with basketball hotshots Chris Banchero of the Alaska Aces and Jeron Teng of the De La Salle Green Archers.

The launch, which was held at the Gatorade Hoops Center, saw members of the media interacting with the ambassadors in a number of fitness activities. Participating media not only got a glimpse of, but also experienced how, off-court training is being done by these elite athletes. The winning group got to bring home prizes courtesy of not only Gatorade but also Toby’s, Adidas, Juju Eats and 360 Fitness Club.

“Coming from our 50th anniversary wherein we celebrated Gatorade’s legacy of fueling local and international sports’ greatest moments, we now want to focus on empowering a new breed of athletes and game changers,” Pepsico Philippines Marketing Manager for Hydration Tony Atayde said. “Alyssa, Mika, Chris and Jeron are top athletes who know the value of working hard to stay in peak form and understand that games aren’t won on the court but in the gym and practice venues. We’re excited to see them inspire more people to pursue active lifestyles and understand the value of proper hydration.”

Road to greatness

Where does greatness begin?

Gatorade believes that it begins with hard work—the kind with no shortcuts, the kind that’s relentless and that will make you ache and sweat. Whether the goal is to finish a 21K half marathon, climb a mountain peak, or just feel physically stronger overall, preparing yourself in the gym and constantly working to improve your game is key to winning on game day.

And with this kind of hard work, proper hydration is crucial to be able to push forward and grow stronger.

With a refreshing, light orange-grapefruit flavor, White Lightning is formulated with non-carbonated water that does not cause stomach discomfort; 6% carbohydrates which research has shown to be the optimal level in promoting absorption and providing energy to working muscles; electrolytes for rapid rehydration and minerals to help prevent cramps.

Atayde added, “You don’t have to be a pro athlete to benefit from proper hydration. For as long as you move and you sweat, your body needs to be properly hydrated so you continue to work towards achieving your full potential. We’re confident that our new variant and our new ambassadors will help us reinforce that message.”

Apart from this grand launch, Gatorade is finally making its debut in the country’s fast growing running circuit with the launch of the first ever Gatorade Run.

The run will happen on November 22 at the Seaside Boulevard at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. There will be two distances—11 and 22 kilometers gun-starting at 5:00 and 4:00 AM respectively. Race fee is P1,100 for 11K participants and P1,500 for their 22K counterparts. The pre-race kit will include an Adidas race tee, a race bib and a timing chip. Another Adidas shirt, this time a finishers tee, will also await all finishers.

“The Gatorade Run will cap off what has been a historic year for us,” Pepsico Philippines Marketing Manager for Hydration Tony Atayde said. “We just celebrated our 50th birthday; we recently beefed up our line-up with a new variant called White Lightning and welcomed a powerhouse cast of ambassadors; and now, we’re launching the first ever run powered by Gatorade.”

Atayde added, “As a global leader in sports performance, runners can expect that Gatorade will bring its sports science expertise to the fore. More than just a run, this milestone event is a platform for us to reinforce our message of proper hydration.”

The Gatorade Run will feature a hydration station where participants can get pre-race hydration drinks, a post-run hydration test area where they can instantly learn about their hydration status, and a warm-up area where free sessions will be available for those who want a full-on warm up activity before the run.

Online registration is until November 13. Runners can also troop to Adidas outlets at Trinoma, Bonifacio Global City, Greenbelt 3, SM MOA and SM Megamall to register until November 8. Registered participants can start claiming their kits on November 16 until November 19 from 12:00 NN to 8:00 PM at their chosen store and schedule upon registration.
