MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Regarded as the most innovative sports and fitness clothing line in the world today, Under Armour extended its reach in the Philippines when it launched ta new brand house in Metro Manila.

Under Armour formally opened a branch at Level 3 of the TriNoma Mall in Quezon City today- Friday, August 12.

The grand opening event will be held tomorrow- Saturday, August 13, with Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) superstars Asi Taulava and Jervy Cruz serving as special guests

Taulava, a Filipino-Tongan cager who has been strutting his wares on the PBA court for 16 years in five different teams, copped the league’s Most Valuable Player trophy in 2003 and led the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters to the All-Filipino Conference title in the same year.

UNDER ARMOUR Store #2 Now Open at SM Megamall

Around four months after it opened it’s Manila flagship store in Bonifacio High Street, US-Based performance footwear and apparel brand, through an exclusive partnership with Triple Pte, Ltd., opened store number 2 in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.

Located at the Ground Floor of the mall’s “high foot traffic” Building A, the store’s opening in Megamall is “a natural step to the brand’s expansion in the Philippines.”, according to Under Armour (UA) New Markets Senior Director, Carlos Maza. “The response to our brand from atheletes in the Philippines has been tremendous and we look forward to increase our presence throughout the country” he further added.

The grand opening which was witnessed by brand executives, VIP, celebrity and media guests, was marked not by the familiar ribbon-cutting ceremony, but by a “chain-cutting ceremony” truly representing the brand’s high energy and signature gritty ethos.

The celebrity guests during the launch was headed by Fil-Am Mixed Martial Arts fighter Brandon “The Truth” Vera and Under Armour Philippines Brand Ambassadors Robi Domingo, Gretchen Ho, Natasha Alquiros and Mia Cabalfin. A huge number of other celebrity guests were also in attendance mainly for the side event which was the “Celebritfy Fitness Challenge” held at the mall’s activity center.

As store guests take their first step to the store, by the entrance will be the UA decal or what they call as the brand’s “Universal Guarantee of Performance”. This embodies the brand’s promise that only the best innovative products will be available inside the store for sports-loving Filipinos.

At the right side of the store is the Women’s section, wherein female shoppers will be first greeted with the UA Studio and UA Studio Lux lines. Products under these two lines are designed for athletic females.

Further inside the women’s section is the UA Power in Pink line. According to the UA website, the UA Power in Pink® celebrates the many women who use fitness and exercise to stay healthy, and serves as a platform to help raise awareness about breast health.

By buying any apparel from this line, you not only get your hands (or body!) into an innovative UA product but you get to help spread awareness regarding breast health and provide support for it too!

Other products within the women’s section features various signature UA technologies. It is too hard to resist not being able to buy at least one item before going out the store!

Meanwhile, situated at the left portion of the store is the Men’s section of the men’s line. Here you can see products catering to almost all types of sports – from basketball, running, ultimate frisbee, tactical to golf. Sporty men will really have a field day inside the UA Store!

At the middle, as if drawing the border betw the men’s and women’s section is a showcase of the Under Armour foot wear line. Of course, women’s foot wear on the left, men’s on the right. The huge post at the middle of the store which is what the guests will notice upon entrance, was put to good use also as it holds some of the latest in footwear collection. Take your pick, for sure you’ll never fail to love at least one!

The Celebrity Fitness Challenge was the sidelight of the launch event with a huge number of celebrities who have been known to be engage in sports as participants. The challenge was for the participants to perform various crossfit exercises while donned in UA gear from head to feet. The top 3 who gets to have the most number of repetitions per set gets to take home amazing prizes – both in cash and UA products! It was truly a challenge which tested the physical limits of the celebrities. Towards the end, I already am having the impression that it is already more mental than physical already! At the end, three male and female celebrities went home with awesome prizes courtesy of Under Armour! Can they say it was “one though day at the office? You bet it was but then again, I knew they enjoyed it and learned a lot from the experience. It was after all, their own taste of the #IWILL and #IWILLWHATIWANT philosophy of Under Armour.

The Celebrity Fitness Challenge was capped by a dance number by 2014 World Hiphop Champion the Philippines’ the A -Team and then a similar but less tough Crossfit Fitness Challenge was also opened to the public.

The PINK RUN 2014

Did you know that breast cancer is the number one killer in Filipino women today? Studies also show that the Philippines has the most number of deaths caused by breast cancer. And not to forget, breast cancer afflicts not only women but men too. When men does get it, it is often too late for them. These are just some of the reasons why the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS), for the fourth year now, decided to hold a race – the Pink Run.

The Pink Run 2014 will be on October 5 at the Venice Pizza in McKinley Hill, Taguig City and is meant to raise awareness and gather funds for breast cancer research and treatment. This advocacy of the PSGS receives a much-needed boost this year as top athletic performance brand Under Armour joins the cause.

Together with the presentation of the running event to the members of media, Under Armour’s “I Will What I Want” women’s campaign has been launched together with pretty campaign ambassadors, Mia Cabalfin, Natasha Alquiros and Gretchen Ho among others. “I Will What I Want” is a movement that pushes forward a new standard of beauty that goes beyond face value – a standard that regards a woman for her strength, tenacity and toughness amid insurmountable odds. Perfect description fit for those who are fighting against breast cancer.

As Under Armour’s campaign and PSGS’ advocacy comes to perfect alignment, UA is out to provide full backing to the running event which is open to both male and female of all ages. Apart from this, UA will donate 10% of all their sales from the Under Armour Power in Pink women’s performance line to the PSGS.

Registering for this event provides us, as runners to contribute to this advocacy while doing what we love – running. See below for more run details.
