Your Perfect Running Partner: What’s New About the Nike+ Run Club App?

In addition to best-in-class tracking for indoor and outdoor runs, the redesigned and updated app provides the premier motivation-guidance-support system, helping athletes to run farther and faster than ever before, propelled by the following new features:

NEW (ADAPTIVE) COACHING

Three distinct training programs designed by expert coaches help athletes “Get Started,” “Get More Fit” and “Get Race Ready.” Can’t make Tuesday’s Speed Run? Need to move the Long Run to Thursday? Not a problem. The updated Nike+ Run Club app adapts coaching plans to athletes’ schedules on the fly. Additionally, in-ear (i.e., audio) coaching from experts, like sprint legend Michael Johnson, helps push the runner’s pace.

#MOTIVATION

Whether on trail, track or road, hashtagging a run instantly connects Nike+ members around the world to a global leaderboard and collection of the photos shared with that hash-tag. Stickers showcase runners’ route maps, stats and elevation gain, allowing them to customize their photo—they can also further layer the photo with exclusive emoji-like stickers to create a truly unique running story.

STRONGER CONNECTION TO A RUNNING COMMUNITY

Join one of our 250 weekly Nike+ Run Club live session experiences, led by NRC Head Coaches and Nike Pacers. “Ready, Set, Go” sessions lay the fundamentals for novices while weekly Speed Runs, held at iconic track venues, help runners unlock their full pace potential. Also, users can discover, book and check-in directly to sessions via the new Nike+ Run Club app.

#TUNES

Playlists, featuring songs selected by Nike athletes and specifically designed to increase athletes’ speed, power up every run.

NO PHONE NECESSARY

The AppleWatch’s built-in accelerometer provides runner access to all of the in-run app metrics and experience so you can leave your iPhone at home.

NIKE Air Pegasus 31: The Most Iconic Shoes of Running

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It was in the year 2005 when the obese and unhealthy me finally decided to make an important change in my life – I finally said that yes, it is high time that I try to embrace the healthy, active kind of lifestyle. I don’t know much about this lifestyle then but there are two things that I am certain that I should do to jumpstart this new project to being a new me – enroll myself into fitness/gym training and buy myself a pair of shoes to use for that purpose. More specifically, buy myself a NIKE pair of shoes. And this is how I came to know the NIKE Air Pegasus. It was then my favorite “sporty” shoe and the one which will share with me those initially hard and challenging times of  trying to stick to new lifestyle.

Fast track to the present – I have since retired and passed on my Pegasus to somebody else, have had other pairs (and brands!) of shoes later and have found another Nike favorite (the Lunar Glide, which incidentally I will tell you more about on a future post) but I still have that delighted feeling every time I learn of a new version of an Air Pegasus being available to the market.

This season, Nike has again released a newer, more improved version of the shoe- the Nike Air Pegasus 31. According to the official release, the Pegasus 31 was a result of the Nike design team partnering closely with Mo Farah (Gold Medalist and three-time World Champion) and leveraging the insights from over 16,000 wear-tested miles logged by runners of all levels. Much of the design and inspiration for the shoe came from working with, testing and listening to athletes, which resulted in the new faster, more responsive Pegasus 31.

Watching the below videos made me think that maybe it is the right time for me again to own a pair of Pegasus. As Nike have been with me when I was just starting to get to know running as a sport and as a part of my active lifestyle, I feel like it is again just right for it to be part of my road to going back to consistent and disciplined running/living. Watch the following videos or read the below press release to know more about the Nike Air Pegasus 31. If you are trying to find a perfect pair, this might be it for you. 😉

NIKE UNVEILS HIGH MILEAGE SPEED MACHINE – NIKE AIR ZOOM PEGASUS 31
Iconic Pegasus31 is inspired by gold medalist, world champion Mo Farah

The re-engineered Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31, a remastering of one of the most iconic running shoes ever, debuts today. The Pegasus 31 is a result of the Nike design team partnering closely with Mo Farah and leveraging the insights from over 16,000 wear-tested miles logged by runners of all levels.

As always, much of the design and inspiration for the shoe came from working with, testing and listening to athletes, including Mo Farah, double gold medalist and three-time world champion. When he said he wanted his favorite shoe to be faster, the Nike design team listened and got to work.

“The Pegasus is one of my favorite shoes and it just keeps getting better,” said Mo Farah, whose go-to training shoe is the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus. He remembers immediately feeling a difference in the Peg 31 prototype. “The first time I put on the Peg 31, I felt faster off the ground. I loved that snappiness and snug fit combined with the soft cushioning and protection that I need for my 100+ miles a week.”

The new Pegasus feels faster and more responsive than any version in its impressive 31-year heritage. The latest shoe retains key features loved by loyal Pegasus runners – heel Zoom Air units for a cushioned, quick and responsive ride, a breathable upper and excellent fit. The new design introduces enhancements like a brand new contoured last for streamlined fit, dropped offset (10 millimeters) for a more natural stance, an engineered midfoot saddle, designed to provide ultimate lockdown while under the foot, and an all new crash rail outsole to provie a smooth transition for any type of foot strike. These changes provide a better fitting, more natural ride and added toe spring, built-in from the curvature of the toe.

“When designing the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31, we had the unique benefit of athlete feedback from 16,000-plus miles of wear testing in the shoe and this helped us focus on fine-tuning and evolving this iconic shoe to make it feel even faster and more responsive,” said Mark Miner, Senior Footwear Designer. “Mo Farah is truly an advocate for the performance of the shoe, and he gave us insights along the way that allowed us to revolutionize the 31.

Zoom Air cushioning is engineered to be highly responsive and quick off the ground. The unique responsiveness of Zoom Air comes from tightly stretched tensile fibers woven inside a pressurized Nike Air unit. Upon impact, Zoom Air tensile fibers release their tension and then snap back to their original state, generating responsive, snappy, propulsion.

“Whether this is your first year running in the Pegasus or your 31st, we wanted runners to feel that fast snap off the ground with Zoom Air and a snug, breathable fit,” continued Miner.

The launch of the NIKE All-Women Training Club was a party, a celebration of woman power!

Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager, the pretty Courtney Cole-Faso explained that the aim was really to provide women a training alternative where sessions or activities are focused on women-friendly activities which may not necessarily have equal appeal for the men.

That is why for the kick-off session, Nike, together with its partners came up with one grand event, even flying-in Nike Master Trainer Marie Purvis to lead everyone into the Nike Training Club brand of workout.

After the exclusive media session at the 2nd Floor of the Planet Sports store in BGC (which will be the hub of the Nike All-Women Training Club), we were brought to the activity area for the main event comprised of a super tiring, sweat-inducing but awesomely fun workout led by Marie (most of the workouts can be done alone with the help of the Nike Traning Club – NTC, mobile application which can be downloaded for free on iPhone and Android devices), a 1.5km run where participants are handed-out long-stemmed red roses as they cross the finish and a fun post-workout snack of cold water, bananas, Oreo cookies and sorbetes (Filipino-style Ice cream!).  A booth was also setup for the trial of the new NIke Free shoes. Oh and of course that fun, fun trampoline experience!

Are you interested to be part of this training club? Check back soon as an announcement to the official opening of regular sessions is posted here. Membership is FREE and exclusive to women only.

Meanwhile, here are photos. Enjoy!

Nike Inspires Filipino Women to Run Free

Female Runners are Globally Connected with the Nike+ Running App

PHILIPPINES, 6 May 2012 – Over 200 female runners joined Nike to Run Free through the streets of Bonifacio Global City at an exclusive all-female celebration of running and training.

Led by Nike Master Trainer Marie Purvis, Run Free celebrated the power of women runners in a be-proud-of-your-sweat Nike Training Club workout session emphasizing the need for a holistic athletic training regimen for runners.

“Nike Training Club makes you a stronger runner and athlete because of its well-rounded training program that allows you to develop muscles that may get overlooked by running as well as improve your overall fitness. The secret to achieving this is to stay consistent, stay dedicated and most importantly, have fun with your training,” shared Purvis. “I have always admired the enthusiasm of Filipino women from around the world and seeing the energy of Filipina runners as they run free with the world in this event has only reinforced that impression.”

Harnessing the energy of its youthful audience were locally-renowned DJs Kat DJ and Patty Tiu, collectively known as Deuce Manila, who got the ladies moving with their high-octane beats, while Brewing Point Dance Studio, an all-female dance crew, stepped up the heat with their hip hop dance routine. After much anticipation, Marie Purvis was introduced and really got the energy flowing with an intensive Nike Training Club set followed by a 1.5 kilometer run and ended with an NTC warm-down. Also present were Nike ambassadors Tata Garcia and Gretchen Ho, who hosted the event.

Already boasting a strong presence in the Metro Manila running scene, Nike introduced its weekly all-female Run Club in BGC and showcased its digital platforms—the Nike Training Club App and the Nike+ Running App. Both apps are designed to inspire runners to move more and move better by providing tools to strengthen, track and measure their performance, and challenge their friends who also use the app to compete.

“With the trend of digital media going social, Nike+ presents the perfect opportunity for runners to run anywhere, anytime while staying connected to the global running community. In the same way, we want aspiring young female runners to know that there are women all over the world who can inspire them to become the best runners they can be. We definitely look forward to establishing the foundations with female runners as we drive the running revolution in the country,” shared Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager Courtney Cole-Faso.

Nike Unveils Latest Running Shield Pack Collection

Nike Running Shield Pack Women’s

Running in the rain can be an exhilarating experience, but it can be dangerous as well. Wet tracks reduces grip, and reduces visibility. The rain should not deter runners from their runs but when the challenge calls, the Holiday 2012 Nike Shield footwear collection answers.

The Nike Shield Pack introduces the iconic styles of the Nike LunarGlide+4Nike Free Run+3 and Nike Air Pegasus+29 to keep runners dry, protected and comfortable. Each shoe is treated with weatherized features that help resist rain while maintaining the breathability important to runners

Below is the official press release that shows more information about the Nike Running collection.

Introducing high-performance gear designed for the country’s extreme weather conditions

Nike Running Shield Pack Men’s

Southeast Asia faces its annual wet and cool season through the monsoon months, with the highest rainfall at the end of every year. Running in the rain can be an exhilarating experience, but it can be dangerous as well. Wet tracks reduces grip, and reduces visibility.

The rain should not deter runners from their runs, and this Holiday ’12 season, Nike introduces products to keep runners dry, protected and comfortable.

Breathability, ventilation and comfort come together in the NIKE RELAY tops (men’s and women’s). The Nike Dri-FIT knit fabric enables premium sweat management, while ergonomic seaming with flat-seam construction follows the body’s natural contours for reduced irritation, a flattering fit and a full range of motion. Mesh underarm panels and the dropped and vented hem augment the cool comfort. The NIKE RELAY top features reflective elements as well, keeping the runner visible in the dark. A reflective headphone cord loop at the back of the neck also means runners can listen to their music without distractions.

NIKE TWISTED TEMPO shorts for women pack high-performance features into stylish and comfortable running shorts, available in a wide range of color combinations with contrasting diagonal panels. The Nike Dri-FIT fabric and built-in Dri-FIT crepe liner helps keep runners dry. A zipper pocket provides secure storage for a small media player.

The NIKE SHIELD PACK– a collection of running footwear to suit each unique running style –is updated with the Nike Shield technology, igniting runners every day and night of this season no matter rain or shine. It features a highly reflective inner sleeve that performs triple duty—it’s reflective even in dim light for safety; it makes a barrier that resists water in wet conditions, but stays breathable; and the reflectivity adds some flash to the look.

The Shield Pack collection consists of the NIKE FREE RUN+ 3 SHIELD, NIKE LUNARECLIPSE+ 2 SHIELD and NIKE PEGASUS+ 29 SHIELD.

So in this wet, rainy season, there is no reason not to continue running.
