Run United 2 2012 RACE EXPO Details

For the Run United 2 2012 race event, RunRio will be  holding what will seem to be the biggest Pre-Race Expo that the Philippine Running Community will experience so far.

Off-hand here are the Race Expo Objectives as shared by RunRio and ULAH:

• Venue for runners to check out the latest and coolest sports apparel
• Fitness and athletic brands can present their latest products and services
• Hang out with fellow runners/sports enthusiasts, friends and family
• Race kit claiming made more interesting & interactive
• Major marathons around the world host race expos days before their event  (so it is only fitting that the Philippine running race setting becomes at par with what the rest of the world is doing!)

Anybody Want A THORLOS?

I have been into running since my “fitness awakening” in the year 2005. Through the years, as I get to love this sport more, I have accumulated a lot of learning gathered from mentors, coaches, friends, reading materials and most importantly, actual experiences.

One of those important learnings that I have always kept in mind is that a runner’s performance/comfort not only lies on choosing a good pair of shoes but also in choosing a perfect pair of socks to use with the shoes. The socks after all is the main item which gets into contact with our feet. With a poor sock-selection, blisters are a big possibility together with sweaty, smelling feet that more often than not leads to smelly feet.

When I received an invite for the Thorlo socks launch, I have thought that ah, finally I will get to know more about this premium socks brand and have an appreciation why it is priced higher than the common running-specific socks brand. And these are bits and pieces of what I learned from the launch:

I might probably purchase and try that one out first as it is said to be the premium model for running.

Run For A Scholar

I rarely endorse races which aren’t organized by groups that I am comfortable with. But there is this one race which aims to gather enough funds to be able to send underprivileged children to school. I am a mom to kids still in-school (and yet to be in school!) and I know that every parent would want their kids to gain formal education but not most parents are lucky to have the means to do so.

I was with regret that I have not been able to attend this event’s formal launch but from the materials I have been provided with and from the feedback from my other blogger friends, this race that is being presented by The American Chamber Foundation Philippines, Inc. and Chevron Philippines is one deserving of my hard-earned money. Yes, I will register for this race not only because it has a friendly-rate but because I know that regardless of how this race is to be organized or how the conduct of this race will fare with other big races, I know in my heart that my simple act of registering and paying for this race will help send one child to school and eventually, possibly help shape his/her future.

Race for a Brighter Future
AmCham Foundation Philippines launches scholarship run
to help underprivileged students

On May 27, the American Chamber Foundation Philippines in partnership with Chevron Philippines, will be “racing” to give those underprivileged kids a better future through the “Run for a Scholar” charity event at the 9^th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City. The money raised will go to AmCham Foundation’s scholarship program. This year, it hopes to raise enough to send 100 scholars to school. Actor and current Optical Media Board (OMD) Chairperson Ronnie Rickets will be at the race to lead the run together with the ABS-CBN Star Magic Artists.

The charity walk/run is open to both running enthusiasts and newbies. There will be three categories: 3K, 5K and 10K. Assembly time is around 5 AM at the Bonifacio Global City. For only P500 to P600 registration fee, participants will not only get to participate in the race and help a child, they will also get a race kit, singlet, a loot bag and a chance to win fabulous prizes including Suunto watches, five-star hotel accommodation and many more. The top 100 finishers in each category will also receive medals while the first-place finishers from all three categories will receive a pair of running shoes from Somnio. Registration is very convenient. Those interested register at any Chris Sports mall branches or at the American Chamber Foundation office.
