Cool Meets Comfort with Nike’s New Breathe Collection

It may be cool in the Northern Hemisphere for the Holiday 2014 season, but it’s summertime in the Southern half of the world. With the new Breathe Collection, Nike brings summer-focused performance benefits to sport classics. To combat the heat, the collection features breathable, lightweight sneakers that are comfortable enough to keep up with any warm-weather activities. In other words: sneakers for the spirit of summer.

In South America, Brasil’s hot and humid conditions inspired Nike design with the on-the-go lifestyle that switches from the beach one minute, to running and training the next.

The Nike Design team integrated lightweight and breathable materials into the footwear collection to help free feet from oppressive summer temperatures.

The Nike Breathe Collection deconstructs two of Nike’s iconic silhouettes, transforming classic Nike Air Max and Nike Roshe Run sneakers into ultra-breathable, lightweight shoes. The shoes have been stripped to their core essentials — layers of reinforcement removed and heavy materials eliminated. Spacer mesh creates pockets of air between the upper materials to allow for increased airflow.

The Nike Breathe Collection’s Air Max Lunar 1 styles are infused with Nike Lunarlon foam technology, which refines cushioning by taking comfort and support with a responsive foam ride.

Distinct colorways for men and women offer vibrant summery hues. The Nike Breathe Collection is now available on and at select Nike retailers.

Stripped of its traditional leather, suede and synthetic overlays, the Nike Air Max 1 Breathe sheds weight and improves breathability. A dynamic fit tongue ensures the foot stays secure and moves with the body, while an updated Phylon tooling makes the sole ultra-light and super comfortable.
Bold piping offsets the gray mesh to give this season’s Air Max Breathe an updated look.

The definition of cool style, bright colors dominate this season’s Nike Roshe Run. The men’s colorways boast vividly hued outsoles, bringing a strong contrast to the neutral uppers. The women’s looks take the opposite approach, with white outsoles supporting vibrant uppers and accented with a white Swoosh logo.

Nike Philippines just recently made its newest stability shoe, the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 , available in the market. Designed for speed but never scrimping on stability, this trashes the notion that for running shoes to be able to provide stability, it will have to suffer in terms of providing features for speed.

Get a chance to prove if their claims are true by taking the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 for a free trial run by joining the just-launched Nike+ Training Club which is held every Wednesdays, 6PM at BGC’s Track 30th. I am sure you would want to have your very own pair after trying it out and being able to receive valuable run training from qualified running coaches courtesy of Nike.

Check more details about this newest Nike shoe by reading the official press release below. Cheers!

New Nike Air Zoom Structure: Stability Has Never Been Faster
The 18th version of the beloved workhorse delivers stability and performance that are unshakeable at high speeds.

Strength and growth come from continuous effort — but growing up doesn’t have to mean slowing down, as proven by the new, revolutionary Nike Air Zoom Structure 18. Now in its 18th version, the Nike Air Zoom Structure raises the bar for a running shoe that delivers both speed and stability.

Over the last two-plus decades, Nike designers have debunked the notion that stable means slow. They’ve constantly pushed to make the Nike Structure shoe lighter, smoother and more responsive without sacrificing any of its vaunted stability features. The design of the Structure 18 is a quantum leap from past versions where designers revolutionized it from top to bottom.

The Nike team worked closely with elite athletes such as 10,000m silver medalist Galen Rupp and 3,000m world junior champion Mary Cain for insights to bring the distinctive shoe across the finish line. Rupp, who runs nearly all of his 120 miles per week in the Nike Structure, said the Structure 18 gives him a more stable ride and feels faster all the way through his runs.

“The Nike Structure is the only shoe I’ve trained in since I started running, so it feels special to me to have input in the design of the new one,” Rupp said. “I love the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 because it hugs my foot in the right places, providing the support I need to go the distance. I was really surprised when I picked them up and felt how light they were. It’s like Nike found a way to magically shave a few ounces off, and because of that, I feel like I can run faster in them.”

The Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 delivers uncompromising stability through the combination of an upper featuring Asymetrical Dynamic Flywire and a triple-density Dynamic Support system in the midsole. The new contoured last — created to provide a better fit and more responsive ride — combined with Nike Zoom Air cushioning, provides added toe spring for the snappy, quick-off-the-ground feel athletes expect from Nike Zoom Air.

Designed to provide runners with support and cushioning, the innovative Dynamic Support system uses opposing wedges of foam with different densities to help slow the rate of pronation. Designers enhanced the support in the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 by adding a third, high-density foam to the existing system. When needed, the three-density Dynamic Support system kicks in to help provide added support and enhance the smooth transition upon foot strike.

The design also features a Nike Engineered Mesh upper with Asymetrical Nike Flywire cables that wrap the foot and provide support without the bulkiness of previous models, letting the foot move naturally. Nike Engineered Mesh also improves comfort and breathability. Nike Engineered Mesh enables designers to precision-engineer ventilation and lightweight support where needed most, improving comfort and breathability.

Nike’s Zoom Air technology is the fastest, most responsive Nike Air cushioning, making it the cushioning of choice for many elite and everyday athletes. Highly responsive Nike Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot combined with the added toe spring of the new Zoom last, provides the Structure 18 with a responsive snap and fast transition.

“We designed the Zoom Air collection to be a revolution in speed,” said Rob Dolan, Nike VP and Creative Director, Footwear. “Whether athletes are racing or training, they repeatedly ask for Zoom Air because they love that fast, snappy, responsive ride and the energy return they get from it.”

For the first time, the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 will be available for customization with NIKEiD on starting Sept. 25. NIKEiD will exclusively provide choices in widths, sockliners and personalization with colors, color-fade graphics and characters. The inline Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 will be available on starting Oct 2.

The Nike Air Zoom Structure 18 is part of a collection of Zoom Air running shoes that includes the Air Zoom Pegasus 31, Air Zoom Elite 7 and Air Zoom Streak 5.

Jampacked November Weekend for Filinvest City

Worthy of its bid to be the preferred sporting hub/venue of Metro Manila, Filinvest City, Alabang will be having a jampacked sporting weekend on November 8 and 9!

For one, there will be their own event, the Filinvest City Endurance Weekend. It has two legs – first will be the Endurance MTB leg happening on November 8 (Saturday) from 6AM to 6PM and the second will be the Endurance RUN leg which is set to happen on the morning of November 9 (Sunday).  Read more about this event’s details HERE and HERE.

What sets this event apart from the other mtb or run-based events is that it does not aim to test one’s speed but rather one’s endurance. Whereas other events reward you for finishing within a set time limit, this race will reward you for having to endure riding the mtbike or running the trail or both, for a specific time duration with a minimum number of laps covered. Yep folks, you will not be rewarded much for being fast but for being well, patient! And what will the rewards be? Here:

Yes and not just a challenging sporting weekend it will be, it will also be a fun colorful one because the organizers of the Color Manila Run series have partnered with Filinvest to give you this event as a colorful ice-breaker between the Endurance Weekend’s MTB and Run events!

The Sunpiology Run returns for its 3rd edition this year with an Indiana Jones-themed run. Dubbed as the SUNPIOLOGY: An Adventure Filled RUN with the Stars, this event, which is one of the most anticipated annual charity events in the country, presents an adventure the target of which is to conquer challenges and/or obstacles that is related to or has something to do with the four elements of nature – fire, water, earth and air. It is truly a run with more than just a dash to the finish line as an objective!

The event is expected to be star-studded with Star Magic artists like Jane Oineza, Matteo Guidecelli, Robi Domingo, Ynna Assistio and Rayver Cruz confirming their participation. This year’s Sunpiology event promises to be the best ever as this will be the reunion of sorts for the Piolo-Coach Rio tandem who will last saw race together at the Timex Run of 2011.
