Oh no, not that marathon. Before my family and close friends kill me for saying that, let me clear that what I really meant was that I am doing a “movie watching marathon”. 😉
Now that my routine with my newborn have been fairly regular (hectic on mornings!), I have slowly found time to read and watch. After finishing two non-running books, I decided to finally watch the running films that friend Jay lent me. This is the closest thing to running that I have for now.
So far, I have watched and developed very high regard to both 1924 Olympians, Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams upon learning about them through the movie Chariots of Fire. Awed at how great a runner Steve Prefontaine was and saddened too for his life was cut at the early age of 24. Heck, he could have done great at the Montreal Olympics! Oh and not to forget, glad to have had a glimpse of how Bill Bowerman was as a head track coach for the University of Oregon before starting a shoe store that would later become the biggest sports brand in the world, Nike. Steve and Bill were not mere names of running legends to me now, I got to know them more because of the film, Without Limits.
Nope, I won’t do any film reviews here. I am not an expert on that. But if you happen to get hold of any of these, I suggest you take time to watch. No time wasted. 😉
Now for me it’s two films done, three more to go! ;P

As advised by RunRio Inc., RunRio membership cards of early Rexona Run 2010 registrants can now be claimed starting today, Tuesday July 13, 2010, from the center where they registered.
Please be advised that all card recipients we will be required to bring either a valid ID, for those who will claim their RunRio Membership Card personally, or a letter of authorization, if they will ask someone to claim it on their behalf.
As of now, the main purpose of these membership cards is to increase the efficiency of RunRio Inc.’s data-gathering process. The next time a cardholder wishes to join a RunRio event, he/she no longer need to go through the tedious process of falling in line and entering data on the iPads. All one needs to do is show his/her card and his/her registration information will automatically be obtained from the system using the unique ID number. Watch out for further updates as soon as special deals and discounts will be available for cardholders.
One of my most memorable outdoor experiences will have to be our mtbike ride at Makiling, Laguna. We were supposed to tackle the trail from the top – from the Makiling resort and down to the trails at UPLB. But then again, I was not able to fully conquer the whole route. Why? Several minutes into the ride, I crashed (and so as two of our companions) while taking on a tricky downhill, blind curve. This is to be my worst mtbike crash so far and the one which gave me the memorable scars on my left elbow and knee. It happened at a time that I was pretty new to the mtbiking craze. Engot pa, kumbaga! ;P They said that an experience that hurt me but did not kill me will only make me stronger. So from then on, I had that resolve that someday I will have to return to Makiling and see if I can try and ride on its trail one more time. A successful one at that.
So when I opened my inbox and saw this email about a Makiling challenge race, I can’t help but remember my own bittersweet Makiling experience. If it was hard for me then to ride the route via a mountain bike, I am so curious and excited on the route for this foot race. If I had not only just given birth, I would have signed-up for this race pronto! If I had failed via a mountain bike, will I experience the opposite in running? The answer to that question folks will have to wait until next year. Hopefully a Makiling Challenge, 10th edition will still be organized by then. Meanwhile, y’all may want to give this out-of-town race a try. 😉
