adidas Launches New PULSE BOOST HD at Night Mile Race Manila

Last August 24, I was lucky enough to be part of a big adidas celebration – first, the official launch of the new adidas PULSE BOOST HD and second, the second year anniversary of the adidas Runners Manila club. adidas made the occasion very special by holding a free run – the Night Mile Race. It was drizzling but it did not stop over a hundred runners from participating in this intimate 5-relay night run.

I arrived at the Intramuros welcomed by the energy of all the people getting ready to join the race. I was told that the race was a 5-member relay run wherein runners 1-4 are expected to complete a one-mile loop and runner 5 completing a 2-mile loop. The fastest male and female group will each win a pair of the new adidas Pulse Boost HD per member.

After the run, all participants were treated to a buffet dinner at Barbara’s restaurant. Truly an anniversary celebration of sorts!

The star of the night, adidas Pulse Boost HD, is the newest upgrade of adidas’ greatest asset, the boost technology. It boasts of the following features:

  • Continental™ Adaptive Traxion, a new Continental™ Rubber outsole developed by artificial intelligence, giving maximum grip to quickly change direction on any surface, dry or wet.
  • Adapt Knit, a new flexible upper that stretches where you need it.
  • Spotify Integration, a QR code on the tongue links directly to a custom playlist based on where you are in the world. Once you’ve scanned the code, you’ll unlock the exclusive playlist.

Here’s a quick look at the new pair I received, courtesy of adidas. I can’t wait to be able to try and run in it soon!

Manila, Philippines, August 2019 — adidas Philippines on August 24 celebrated the launch of its first silhouette to offer the Boost HD— Pulseboost HD. The shoe was engineered for more stability with the same unrivalled energy return and comfort. It is the result of a collaboration among urban runners from New York, Paris, and Berlin. Runners are now free to conquer every corner, every curb, and every crack with a completely new package of performance benefits — Boost HD, Continental Adaptive Traxion, Adapt Knit.

adidas Runners Manila (aRM) got to put the Pulseboost HD to the test at the Night Mile Race Manila, a collective relay with two categories made available — Open, for beginner and intermediate runners, and Elite, for intermediate to advanced runners. The relay had a total distance of five miles, with each member of a team running one mile. The top teams for each category were awarded at the celebration after the run, which was held at Batala Bar in Intramuros, Manila.

“The Night Mile Race is a great way for our runners to experience the new innovation in boost technology as well as to celebrate the anniversary of adidas Runners Manila. We are very proud of what the team has achieved in just the past two years — a highly engaged Facebook group with thousands of members who have, in one way or another, worked on their running goals with aRM”, said Jen Dacasin, adidas Brand Communication and Sports Manager.

BOOST HD isn’t technology— it’s a real life power-up. Join the adidas Runners Manila Facebook group in celebrating BOOST’s impact on sport culture with its free running and training sessions every week.

Organized by high performance sportswear label Under Armour, the event sets out to celebrate human performance through intense functional training challenges for the most determined athletes, goal-getters and fitness aspirants.

With the addition of Indonesia and Brunei this year, the regional fitness competition that also takes place in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines is expected to be more intense than the year before. Participants will compete in a four-minute circuit consisting of Burpees, One Arm Thruster, TRX Rows and Sandbag Throw.

Each competitor will be scored based on the maximum number of repetitions they can achieve within 60 seconds. The highest scoring man and woman of the national heats from each respective country will win an all-expense paid trip to compete in the regional finals, happening in Kuala Lumpur on 6 May 2017.

This year’s overall champion of the regional finals will walk away with S$2,500 cash prize, or around Php 88,000.00.

“The Test of Will is for everyone and anyone with the determination and discipline to train and compete,” said Mr. Michael Binger, CEO of Triple Pte Ltd, exclusive distributor of Under Armour in Southeast Asia. “Last year, we witnessed champions crowned from the most unexpected individuals. The event epitomizes the might of the determined and the spirit of the underdogs, something which Under Armour stands for.”

Under Armour has also recently launched its latest apparel and footwear collections engineered with the Threadborne™ technology leading up to the national heats; to equip participants with the gear to train and compete at the highest level. The Threadborne™ Siro and Seamless collections are made from fabric that is light, breathable, anti-cling, quick-drying and provides a high-level of stretch and recovery.

“Under Armour took the ultra-durable yarns within paracords, and rebuilt them into apparel material that can withstand the rigors of intensive use,” said Binger. “The result is a next generation fabric that gives athletes an edge to perform better through enhanced comfort and durability.”

Overall male and female winners of the Test of Will 2016, Jet Ng and Zoe Pond-McPherson shared the following tips for this year’s challenges.

“When you feel good, you will perform better. So, train hard, eat well, get enough rest, and make sure you feel as comfortable as you can be on that day.” said Ng.

“You will be pitted against many other athletes who have trained hard for their goals. Your ability to focus on that day will be as important as your fitness level.” said Pond-McPherson.

Filipina athletes emerge as top winners of the Under Armour Test of Will Finals

It seems like the athletic gods are on our side as Filipina athletes have been having a field day achieving goals and triumphs lately. On the heels of Mary Joy Tabal’s Rio Olympics-qualifying finish at the recently-concluded Ottawa Marathon, a pair of Filipinas also made it great in this weekend’s Under Armour Test of Will Finals in Singapore.

Know more about it through the official Press Release below.

Cheers!

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The “Three Stars and a Sun” insignia was fully represented in Under Armour’s Test of Will finals at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore on May 28 as Filipina athletes Zoe Pond-McPherson and Noelle Wenceslao topped the competition’s female category.

With the entire archipelago resting on her shoulders, Pond-McPherson claimed the coveted gold medal in Under Armour’s inaugural Southeast Asia-wide fitness challenge that pitted eight male and eight female contenders from countries such as the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Widely regarded for her moniker “The Fittest Woman in Philippine Crossfit,” Pond-McPherson shined among the eight female hopefuls.

On the other hand, Wenceslao had a silver-medal finish in the Test of Will competition.

Pond-McPherson and Wenceslao went through an eye of a needle inside the highly-touted structure known as “The Tower,” which contains different fitness zones with calisthenic exercises.

In the first phase, participants had to undergo 20-kilocalorie Assault AirBike and accomplish 20 jump squats and 20 ab roll-outs.

Difficulty and intensity took a notch higher in the competition’s second part as contestants were obliged to complete 20 burpees and 20 repetitions of 12.5-kilogram single-arm dumbbell thrusters.

A multi-rig course and pull-ups were prepared in the third session, while the last stage catered 64-kilogram kettle bell walk, 20-kilocalorie bike sprint, tire shift and 12-meter rope climb.

Pond-McPherson is no stranger to fitness challenges as she strutted her wares at the 2015 Crossfit Games Pacific Regional in Wollongong, Australia alongside the strongest female practitioners in the region.

Meanwhile, Wenceslao has 16 years of experience in the field of dragon boat paddling and an avid outdoor enthusiast.

In 2007, Wenceslao achieved a milestone as she became one of the first three Filipinas who reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Pond-McPherson and Wenceslao’s male counterparts were able to make it into the top five of the men’s division.

Merwin Torres occupied the third sport of Test of Will’s male category, while Derrick Maercado came in at fifth place.

All of the four Filipino representatives were mentored by fitness power couple Jim and Toni Saret.

Alaska’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars Hold Send-Off Party

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It was a “coming-out” party of sorts for these group of young boys and girls, all of them in their teens, as they were formally presented to the media for the first time as officially this year’s Philippine Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA ALL STARS. Presented by Alaska together with the Male and Female Coaches of the Year at the NBA Cafe a day before they left for their NBA Experience, the seemingly shy and unassuming teeners, accompanied by their ever supportive parents, answered all questions thrown to them sometimes with ease and most of the time, as natural as growing kids are in the company of inquisitive adults. I think not one of them have an inkling of how they have taken that initial step to having a chance to make it big in the world of Philippine basketball in the future.

For me, it was a truly heartwarming occasion as I was a witness to almost the entirety of their Jr. NBA/WNBA journey – from the Tip-off ceremonies last January, to the various selection camps up to finally the national training camp which eventually produced their lot who will come to be known as the Jr. NBA and JR. WNBA All Stars.

The party cum media conference was organized for the group who left for Beijing China today for their NBA Experience. Last year’s Jr. NBA had theirs in Los Angeles, California but this year, as the Alaska representatives have explained, the group will be taken to China where there they will meet their Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai and Vietnamese counterparts for some friendly games, basketball clinic, an NBA Global Games experience and of course, not to forget some cultural tour on the side, including a trip to the Great Wall of China.

The following are the members of theNBA/Jr. WNBA All Stars together with the Male and Female Coaches of the Year who are now in Beijing for the NBA Experience tour:
